Feodosia Museum of Money
The activities of the Feodosia Museum of Money are aimed at the study and popularization of the knowledge relating to coin-striking in Feodosia which of all cities of Ukraine can boast of as many as twelve periods of issue of money.
The Feodosia Museum of Money was established on July 15, 2003. Opening ceremony took place on August 22, 2003.
Museum’s director is Oleshchuk Alexander, a custodian, Guseva Ksenia, a guide, Zelenina Olga.
As our prime duty we regard further study and bringing to strength the museum’s funds, improving on the collection condition of the exhibits in all the sections presented never îverlooking the recovery of numismatic monuments and rarity specimens of coins used to be owned by the Feodosia Museum of Antiquities in Tsarist and Soviet times, but since then, unfortunately, got lost.
July 31, 2005 saw the solemn inauguration of the so-called “safe-room” in the Feodosia Museum of Money. On show in this room are truly unique exhibits such as money minted and printed in Feodosia from antiquity up to our days along with the currency samples that used to be in circulation throughout Ukraine and the Crimea for two thousand years as well as auxiliary objects.
Besides, this exhibition hall highlights the history of banking from its early days on citing the example of Feodosia where banking dates back to antiquity.
The museum’s web-site was launched on June 2, 2003.
The virtual Museum of Money is making every effort to make widely known the history of money circulation both in this country and worldwide and is keen to be helpful to collectors of money, namely, numismatists and bon-collectors.
